Question 1. Asked on :07 October 2020:05:56:02 PM

The temperature of a gas rises during an adiabatic compression, although no heat is given to the gas from out side. Why?

Answer:

Temperature of gases changes only when internal energy of the gases changes. Temperature of the gas is related to du by du = nCvΔT. Hence for all those infinite possible values of du, you will have infinite possible temperatures, still maintaining constant net heat of the system . i.e dq as zero.
