The particles of matter have certain force of attraction between them which keeps them together.This force of attraction called cohesive force.

 Cohesive ( from Latin cohaesio  "cling or unit"). Or cohesive attraction or cohesive force is the action or property of like molecules to sticking together, being a mutually attrative.
